A great big crazy picture of New York!  I took these when Amy and I went to NYC for our fourth anniversary and I am fairly proud of them.  Please feel free to click to view them larger.  I bought a tripod just before we went up the Empire State Building because I had a great desire to take cliché pictures from the top at night.  As we were going through the security checkpoints there was a bit of a stir when my bag went through.  I suppose a tripod does look a little like a nuclear bomb if you sort of squint at it.
These have alternated as some of my desktop wallpapers at various times.
Looking a different direction. Â It was extremely cold up there as we went in December. Â We would like to go back in the autumn or maybe the spring. Â To paraphrase Douglas Adams, the air in New York is goat fryingly hot in the summer.
New York is a really fantastic city and I can understand why so many people flock to it.  I would flock there if I had any kind of chance of working there (highly unlikely!) and I am definitely planning to head back as soon as I am able to do so.  We stayed at the Waldorf≈Astoria when we were there.  We found the common areas of the hotel (lobbies and such) to be really beautiful but the rooms themselves (or ours at any rate) was surprisingly mediocre given the cost per night.  When we go back I think we will go to a less ritzy hotel and just spend our time walking around the city.
This little dude was in Central Park and was very fast moving.
My parents gave us some money to get a special treat while we were in the city so we took a New Year’s Eve horsedrawn carriage ride through Central Park. Â Our original plan was to go to Time Square but we left the hotel about 8 hours too late to get in. Â The cops started barricading the streets that lead to the Square at about 9:30 so we opted for walking up to the Park and surrounding areas. Â I’m pretty sure the Apple store on Fifth Avenue never closes. Â I don’t think they even have a lockable door at the top of the stairs.
I will share some more holiday pictures over the next week or so. Â We’re trying to pick some out to print off and frame to decorate our hallway so I am going to be sifting through them in any case.
